ILMS 6th graders are getting a little "loopy" in science class learning about energy.
They recently created Marble Rollercoasters with foam tubing cut in half.
Students completed four challenges to identify the potential and kinetic energy of their coaster. They had to determine if they needed more potential energy or less in order for the marble to make it through the track.  They also had to identify where the most potential energy was located on their coaster and where the most kinetic energy was found on their coaster. Finally, they were able to create a bonus coaster just for fun!
The exercise teaches several science standards for the grade level.
