The Midwest Regional Educational Service Center delved deep into teen-related topics during the annual Choices Program for Indian Lake and Riverside 8th graders at ILMS recently.
The day-long activity featured speakers from the community presenting on a range of concerns including stress management, texting/sexting, diversity, values, social media dangers, being mindful and healthy choices.
In the session on values, motivational speaker Marcia O'Brien talked about the difficulty of breaking ties with people who do not share your values.
She explained, "It's a tough choice to say I can't be around you if you're always talking about people behind their backs. But your choices, and often your friends, reflect what your true values are."
O'Brien challenged the students to consider whether they like the message they are sending to other people.
Several local businesses support the Choices program by presenting and/or making donations. Bellefontaine Middle School students experienced the Choices program in early October, while Benjamin Logan 8th graders will see the presentations later this month.
