Indian Lake Middle School students are using their science and math skills to see who can build the strongest structure. Sixth graders are working in groups to construct bridges made of only Elmer’s Glue and up to 125 toothpicks. Science teachers Nick Tucci and Christina Fullerton grade the groups on their creativity, design and attention to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) principals. Each group used the engineering design process to build a bridge that resembles an actual bridge, including joint supports. Bridges must meet length, width and height requirements as well. The structure were tested by holding a science textbook. The bridge that can support the most weight with the least amount of toothpicks, wins!
This year the winning bridges belong to the team of Jenna Cline, Nate Grant, and Hailey Hilliard and team of  Lily Michael,  Emma Tackett,  Ealise Simpson Cruz.
