Indian Lake Middle School students who help improve school climate are getting extra kudos as part of a new program under development.
ILMS and ILES recently received a PBIS Grant (positive behavioral intervention and support) through the Ohio Department of Education. A group of Indian Lake guidance counselors, bus drivers, parents and administrators is working with a state support team to implement new ideas on how to excite students about being helpful, respectful, hard working and more.
As part of the development phase, teachers have begun handing out Spear Cards to students that they see displaying positive behavior. Each month every student who receives a card is put into a drawing to earn a special treat in the grade level.
ILMS guidance counselor Mandy Tidwell explains the Spear Card is just the beginning of a greater effort, that will be unveiled and rolled out on a larger scale at the start of the 2017-18 school year. ILES will also use the PBIS grant to enhance its long-standing Laker Zone program.
