7th Grade Science classes are solar-ready! Mrs. Core recently took receipt of her Green Machine. Jake Kruss from the Shared Power Network delivered it and gave her instructions on cool ways to teach with it.
Core showed the device off to students that same day. They will begin using it in class this spring, when the sun is shining more regularly. However, it already has enough power to run a light bulb and charge computers and phones.
Core was able to get the Green Machine with funds from a grant from the Logan County Electric Cooperative.

ILMS 7th Grade Science is about to go green!

Teacher Jana Core recently received an Operation Round Up grant from the Logan County Electric Cooperative for $3,500. She is using the funds to purchase a Green Energy Machine.

Core learned about the Green Machine during summer training for the Ohio Energy Project which is sponsored by the Co-ops in Ohio, including the Logan County Co-op.

She says, "I'm excited about the green machine because it ties into my curriculum with solar energy, technology, electricity and circuits, and weather, as we learn about atmospheric currents that bring weather patterns. It also ties mathematics into its use.

The students in school now are already growing up in a society different than the way most of us grew up.  This is an opportunity for students to look at alternative power sources that may be a larger part of their lives in the future."

The Green Energy Machine kits contains a 1000-watt solar panel, a 12-volt battery and Bluetooth data collection system. It will arrive later this fall.
