ILMS 7th graders got the chance to wrap their head around how many different job opportunities there are in Logan County and try their hands at some of the skills required by those positions.
Seventh graders from Indian Lake, Bellefontaine, Ben Logan, West Liberty and host Riverside Schools talk with dozens of local professionals during the Sixth Annual Logan County Career Day held at Riverside Schools. The Midwest Regional Educational Service center organizes the event in conjunction with the Logan County Area Chamber of Commerce. Extensive career exploration is now an important part of the required curriculum for middle school students.
The goal of Career Day is for students to get hands-on exposure to local occupations, including many positions that they've never considered.
At the event, students had the chance to ask questions and get to know local people working in the areas of pharmacy, construction, engineering, law enforcement, firefighting, automotive, agriculture, cosmetology, sports therapy, various medical fields and more. Many booths provided students with a hands-on experience from driving simulators to attempting to make simple parts.
Students from Indian Lake Middle School were assigned to explore at least seven different areas of interest. Students then interviewed the representatives, asking about typical work days, required education and what is enjoyable about the job.
