The ILMS 6th Grade Guys in Ties and Girls In Pearls recently finished up their sessions by dining together in a fun review of what they've learned this school year! Before the meal, they reviewed table manners and other points of etiquette. Then they carefully placed their napkins on their laps and enjoyed some Lee's Chicken!
Guys in Ties is lead by 6th grade teacher Mr. Chris Burden, while Girls In Pearls is led by Guidance Counselor Mrs. Mandy Tidwell. Both groups learn about proper behavior throughout the year and hear from local guest speakers.
Some Girls In Pearls alumni are excited to share their experience of being in the 7th grade spotlight!
Several ILMS 7th grade girls, who were all part of Girls in Pearls last year and who all shined in the performance of "The Little Mermaid, Jr" at the Holland Theatre, spoke to the sixth grade group recently. They explained the tryout process for the stage show and even watched a clip of the musical. The ladies said they loved learning the songs and dances, plus making many new friends from other schools in Logan County. Each of the 7th graders is also involved in several other activities including school sports, school music opportunities, church groups and 4-H.
The 7th graders encouraged their younger peers to think about activities they enjoy and get involved in something new when they have more opportunities next school year!

Nate's Nectar
The ILMS Guys in Ties and Girls in Pearls are buzzing over an Indian Lake couple and their thriving local business!

The two groups teamed up to have lunch and listen to Nathan and Erika Davis present about "Nate's Nectar." Both are Erika and Nathan are ILHS graduates. Nathan began Nate's Nectar in 2016 after graduating from college and taking up bee keeping. When they married, Erika joined the business, along with Davis' parents and sister. They gather locally-produced honey from their hives and complete production in their specialty kitchen facility in Bloomfield Township, just minutes away from Indian Lake Schools.

Nate's Nectar has been a popular brand sold locally for several years and includes a variety of creamed honey. In recent years they've expanded and their products are now sold in all 50 United States. Just weeks ago, their creamed honey bundle sold out during their first appearance on QVC.

They encouraged the students to find their passion and go from there! Each student got to taste and take home a sample of their  flavored creamed honey--yum! 🐝🍯

The ILMS Girls In Pearls are setting some goals for the new year! They met for the first time in 2026 recently with ILMS Guidance Counselor/GIP leader Mr. Mandy Tidwell. The ladies thought about their favorite memories from 2025. Then they listed some goals for the new year like trying a new food, learning about a new subject, reading a new book and thinking about a new place to possibly visit.
They also discussed ways to be attentive listeners as they have several guest speakers lined up for future meetings.

The latest Girls In Pearls lesson focused on people skills. They talked about making eye contact, listening intently and asking questions to the person who is speaking. Students were put in groups of 4 and given conversation starters such as their favorite activity, subject in school and type of music and students had a discussion on the topic within their group. The lesson concluded with the importance of having good people skills and how that will be critical throughout their life.

The ILMS Girls in Pearls were glad to get to know each other better during their very first meeting of the year.

Girls In Pearls leader ILMS Guidance Counselor Mandy Tidwell passed out the pearls and the ladies helped each other put them on. Then Tidwell explained why pearls are significant, as they form in response to an irritant inside a mollusk. The group discussed having a positive attitude in life and making the best of a situation, just like the sea creatures.
The ladies participated in a sharing game featuring M & M candies. Depending on the color of candy they grabbed, they had to share something about their interests, talents or wants.
