ILMS fifth grade Life Skills students are cooking up lunch and learning a lot!
Over two class periods they prepared a pretty big meal, with the help of Life Skills teachers Guidance Counselor Mrs. Tidwell and Co-Principal Mrs. Miller.
The students peeled and boiled mashed potatoes, cut up strawberries, melon and grapes, heated up corn and grilled chicken breasts for a full meal. Each kiddo participated in the food prep. When all the cooking was done, they dined!
Mrs. Miller wrote and received a $300 Healthy Eating grant from the Logan County Education Foundation to pay for supplies and ingredients. The meal covered all the food groups with fruits, veggies, proteins and carbohydrates.
The good news is, there's money left over for the next section of Life Skills students who will repeat this project toward the end of the year. Yum!
